I was curious if any of you play RTS's or anything on a daily basis or sometimes for fun. All I know is that I love this genre, and it takes up much of my time. My favorite ones are:

Shogun 2 Total War
Napoleon Total War
Empire Total War
Civilization 5
Age of Empires 2
Age of Mythology

Do you guys play any?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I love them.

But have always had too crappy a computer to run then well so I could never really get good...

I like the command and conquer series best(though for the above reason I've not played many others)
Currently have tiberium wars 3.

Its good feeling in control of a force so powerful.

Cant get enough of making a massive army and watching them lay waste to everything that puts up a fight:D

Whats age of mythology like? Does it have mythical monsters and stuff? I dont really want to play one where its just basic infantry with swords etc needs to have some kind of supernatural enemy...is it anything like that at all?

Just so you know.

Shogun 2 Total War: Turn based strategy (TBS to RTS)
Napoleon Total War: Turn based strategy (TBS to RTS)
Empire Total War: Turn based strategy (TBS to RTS)
Civilization 5: Turn based strategy (TBS to RTS)

The Total War games use real time tactics but the strategy element is turn based, CIV is only turn based.

The diffrence between the two is that one you have to make moves while the other player is making them (Real Time) the other, you take it in turn (Turn Based)

But yes, Iike RTS games, I also like TBS.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 is probably one of my favourites.

I love all of these strategy games. The only ones I'm any good at are the Total War games because the AI is incredibly stupid and buggy and you get all the time in the world to manage your stuff. :p

As much as I love RTS games, I am horrible at them. Which is a shame because in my opinion they are some of the best games you can buy. My favourites being Supreme Commander and Command and Conquer Generals. I'm really looking forward to Command and Conquer Generals 2. Wasn't hugely impressed with Tiberium Wars 3.

Yeah, Command and Conquer classic was good, just never really got into them as much as I would've liked to. The AI in TW is pretty dumb, even on a harder difficulty.

Steve, Age of Mythology is much more than swords and such. Based on what civilization you choose, you get certain mythical creatures... like centaurs, Cyclops, Minotaur, Pegasus, Hydras, Chimera, Colossus etc. Its pretty awesome. You also make a titan as your epic unit depending on what team you are.

You are calm and reposed, let your beauty unfold

I'm a huge fan of RTS and TBS games, in ye olden days I used to play Command and Conquer, but I've on and through Total War, Civilisation: Rise and Fall, Sins of a Solar Empire, Warhammer games, The Battle for Middle Earth, etc etc. It's definately my favourite genre of game, to the extent I've even made the woeful mistake of buying a couple for X-box, which were fun (and ran a loooooot better) but just didn't have the same feel.

Ewww, I could never imagine playing a RTS or TBS on a console. That was a bad idea, but I am glad you like it. What is your favorite faction in Total War?

In Rome, the Brutii Roman faction.
In Medieval 2, the Byzantine Empire
In the expansions, I love the Apache, Scottish, Kingdom of Jerusalem and Teutonic factions.
In Napoleon/Empire, the French factions.

I played Command and Conquer 3 on x-box, and Warhammer: Battle March too, those were both quite hard to get used to, but fun once you got into them.

I played Supreme Commander on Xbox, it was awful :p

Tiberium Wars 3 was ok though and Alien Vs Predator Extinction was fantastic on PS2. As was Age of Empires 2. I think I actually prefer Age of Empires 2 on PS2 than PC. But yeah, generally they're way better on PC so long as your rig can handle them.

I really recommend Supreme Commander for PC. It's a different animal to the console version. You can pick it up really cheap on Steam plus it's sequal. How many games let you blitzkrieg your opponents? This one does. I.e strike with your bombers and sweep up the leftovers with tanks and infantry.

I used to play RTS and TBS games constantly. Rome: Total War was my favourite for ages, but it got overtaken by the Civilisation games every now and then. Has anyone played Alpha Centauri, the sci-fi version of Civ?

I briefly played one of the Command and Conquer games, but never really got into it for some reason. That reason may have been Battle For Middle Earth II, mind you.

Haha, that does sound pretty epic to run blitzkreig offensive. I may have to give it a try....

Sousen, I like to play as Great Britain in Napoleon, and in Empire I like the Maratha Confederacy.

I like to play as the English on Medieval and Prussia on Empire. Prussia gets the best land units you see and I'm not much of a naval expert. England starts in a great spot on Medieval. It allows to to march in one direction basically without being flanked on two sides.
